Where Are You Desperate for Restoration?

by Carey Scott

"Learn as you go along what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless pleasures of evil and darkness." Ephesians 5:10–11 TLB

At times we all indulge in self-care. We might try to eat and sleep better and get more regular exercise. We might spend money on facials or pedicures. We might invest in Christian counseling to find healing from issues that continue to trip us up in life. We might even try to be intentional in finding balance between work and play so we don’t burn out. But it’s vital we choose carefully so we don’t embrace worthless pleasures that lead us away from God’s will. Sometimes they are obvious, and other times not so much.

The best self-care is God-care. Invite Him into the places you’re feeling desperate for restoration or rejuvenation. Let the Lord guide you along the path of His goodness, for you can trust His leading. God already knows where you are lacking. He sees where you are depleted. And He understands the depth and complexity of all you are feeling. Ask God to care for your heart and mind and soul. Then watch as He does so in fresh ways that bring back hope and joy.

Dear God, show me the ways that please You so I steer clear of indulging in worthless pleasures as I pursue restoration. Amen.
