Purity

Without Blemish. Beautiful. Unmixed. White. Perfect. Confusing. Hard. Un-realistic. Impossible.

This is what I hear from myself when I dissect my thoughts after hearing the word purity. Something I desire so much – but in all reality seeming nearly impossible. Ever been stuck there?

I grew up in a family where hard work and 110 percent excellence has been taught from the day before you were born. For that I am eternally grateful. What a precious gift my parents have passed on to me. They have always encouraged my siblings and I to do our best in everything and to never give up. These qualities have taught me many amazing things. However, I see today that I have misunderstood that encouragement for a long time. Instead of understanding the encouragement to “work hard and do my best ”, I translated it to “work hard and do the best”. And if I wasn’t doing the best it was easy to feel like I was completely failing my parents, and ultimately failing God (my worst fear).
